39th Annual South Carolina Watermedia Society Juried Exhibition

The opening reception has been re-scheduled for Saturday, November 12, 2016 from 4-6 pm.

October 8 – November 27, 2016 The South Carolina Watermedia Society [est. 1977], the only statewide visual arts organization in South Carolina, nurtures and promotes artists who work in watermedia (i.e. watercolor, acrylic, gouache, casein and mixed media in conjunction with watermedia on any surface) by providing exhibition opportunities, professional development and educational programs. The Society also provides the public with many quality art experiences, including exhibitions and art education through lectures and demonstrations. The Franklin G. Burroughs-Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum is proud to host the Society’s 39th Annual Juried Exhibition, the winning pieces of which will travel around the state after leaving its premier venue here in Myrtle Beach. This year’s juror is artist and author Marc Taro Holmes, also known as “The Citizen Sketcher.” Holmes graduated with a BFA from the Alberta College of Art and Design (Calgary, Alberta, Canada) in 1995 and enjoyed a 15-year career art-directing video games for studios, including Microsoft, Electronic Arts and Disney. He is the author of The Urban Sketcher: Techniques for Seeing and Drawing on Location from North Light Books. Holmes has been a correspondent and board member of urbansketchers.org since 2009. He now lives and works in Montreal, doing freelance illustration and pursuing his personal painting.
