Celia Pearson’s Layerings | A Glimpse of Southeast Asia

September 27 – December 30, 2016

Join us for a free, artist-led tour of Layerings: A Glimpse of Southeast Asia on Friday, December 30, 2016 at 2pm. For more information, visit our calendar.

Profoundly touched by the Vietnamese, Thai and Cambodian cultures she glimpsed during two trips to Southeast Asia, photographer Celia Pearson felt challenged to make a body of work that would express the intensity and vitality of these rich and layered cultures and her own complex experience of them.

Based in photography, Layerings joins traditional prints with photomontages, prints on rice paper and prints on silks. Some works are large scale and all are deliberately unframed, which lends a sense of fluidity and immediacy, inviting a visitor to step into and experience the work in a more intimate way.

Celia Pearson is a lifelong artist. Years of practice as an independent, published assignment photographer brought national recognition. Book credits include the award-winning Pure Sea Glass, The Lure of Sea Glass, and Wayne L. Good Architect: Tradition, Elegance, Repose. Since 2001 Celia has focused on her own work, exhibiting in galleries and museums. Her work is in many private, and several corporate and museum collections.
