The Museum Collection of Gifts and Purchases

From its beginning in 1997, the Art Museum has acquired a number of works through gifts from generous donors, from exhibiting artists and through purchases. The collection continues to grow through the efforts and generosity of our donors and patrons.

Jennifer Falck Linssen | All Wrapped Up from the Reveal series | 2012 | archival cotton paper, aluminum, waxed linen, paint and varnish | 17” x 24” x 11.5” | 2012 gift of the artist

Did you know…?
All Wrapped Up was created specially for the Art Museum’s exhibition At First Light: The Katagami Sculpture of Jennifer Falck Linssen and was inspired by a hanging scroll borrowed from the Morikami Museum of Delray Beach, FL in the accompanying exhibition Kimono: Art, Fashion and Society (summer 2012). Complex wrapping and layering are at the heart of traditional kimono attire assembly. By its very nature, the kimono garment and its numerous peripheral layers are to be fixed and unyielding. Lithe and graceful, the obi and kimono bend and flow. All Wrapped Up comments on this paradox while also delving into the underlying symbolism of wrapping, tying and knotting. The piece, composed of carved obijime braids and long, narrow obi-like panels, is frozen in the act of untying – emblematic of revelation and expression.
