I have lived on the Waccamaw Neck of coastal South Carolina for over forty years, although I was born and raised in Connecticut. The waterways and landscape of the Waccamaw Neck are fascinating to me and they inspire me to paint. The back waters of the Waccamaw River provide landscapes both earthy and ethereal and encourage a variety of color palettes depending on the time of day and weather conditions. In ‘Early Morning on the Waccamaw River’ I was moved by the misty, moody morning fog that enveloped the riverbank and the quiet limited palette of color that it required. The rivers and waterways of this coastal landscape provide infinite possibilities for inspiration and are one of my favorite subjects to paint.
