I relocated to South Carolina twenty-five years ago and was immediately captivated by the landscapes…the beaches, inlets, rivers, swamps and wetlands. Everything from the shrimp boats resting in front of the rusting steel mills of Georgetown to the marshes of Vereen Gardens on the North Carolina border seemed to me to be pulsing with life just below the surface, taking refuge from the afternoon sun. The bluest skies, the darkest shadows, the mysterious Carolina Bays inspired me to find a way to show others what I saw. Pastel seem to be the perfect medium for this. The intense colors, the uncertain edges, the layers of luminosity unlock, for me, the heart of the Low Country.
