TODAY‘S HOURS: 1pm to 5pm

Katherine V. Stuart

Kathleen V Stuart grew up in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. Although she always harbored a passion for art, it wasn’t until her husband retired that she fully committed to her craft. Her artistic education was largely self-directed with some university classes, but most of her extensive learning came through personal experimentation and the vast resources available online and in books. This approach provided her the freedom to explore and master techniques at her own pace, from sewing and fiber art to the nuanced and ancient technique of encaustic painting.
Early on, she devoted her skills to sewing clothing, however, her interests evolved and she transitioned to quilting. She mastered free-motion stitching and embroidery, winning many awards for her work. She moved on from there to fiber art where she used all her skills to create three-dimensional abstract yet lifelike representations of natural subjects. For her encaustic work, she became a student of YouTube tutorials and how-to books, which taught her how to manipulate wax on flat and three-dimensional surfaces.

Kathleen’s method is intuitive, rarely sketching or journaling, preferring to dive right into her creative process. She is a member of the Studio Art Quilters Association and the Surface Design Association. Her work can be found in several galleries: Georgetown Art Gallery in Georgetown, SC, Seacoast Artists Guild & Gallery in Myrtle Beach, SC and William Miller Gallery, also in Myrtle Beach. Her work has been in many art shows winning her several Best Of Show awards and ribbons and has been featured in magazines. She has a collection of 12 fiber art pieces in the permanent collection at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago that are used to teach the students alternative fiber methods.
