“Life is Art”-and capturing the beauty of it through art is just a part of me. The process of painting and the tangible result of time well spent reads somewhat like a memoir of a writer. I can go back through the years and each painting whether it is hanging on my wall or on someone else’s now can be tied to a place and time in my life.

Since graduating from Queens University in Charlotte, NC with a BA in Business and a minor emphasis on Art, my life journey has taken me through the winding road of marriage, motherhood, shop owner, art student and teacher. Currently I spend much time in the business of art being part-owner and co-managing Island Art Gallery. I also love to teach others the process of painting and have led an on-going Open Studio class and beginner workshops at the gallery over the last ten years.

Through the years I have had the opportunity to further my understanding of painting through many workshops with artists whose work I admire as well as by being a part of the community of incredible artists at Island Art Gallery. Growing up in a creative environment with a mother who filled our home with music and having a twin sister, Carol Carstarphen, who shares my passion for art has surely been a blessing.
