| Barnie’s art career started in high school where he took four years of art at Columbia High School in his hometown of Columbia, SC. At age 16 he painted his first ever painting and has painted 50 or more paintings a year since that time. He paints mostly in acrylics and watercolors but occasionally will use oils when requested. Barnie still paints several times a week and will often paint four or five days a week. Teaching art painting came natural for Barnie and he has been teaching off and on for more than 50 years. He has taught more than 12,000 students in the years he has been painting. Barnie has two of his paintings in the White House in Washington, DC. He also won the national art contest for the South Carolina Saltwater Fish Stamp Competition in 1998 painting his rendition of the Cobia. After retiring from his full-time job at a major retailer, he started painting murals in schools across the Carolinas and ended his career after 13 years with a shoulder injury by fishing, finishing over 50 miles of walls in more than 250 schools. He is also one of the owners of Island Art Gallery. He exhibits his work in several art galleries around the Pawleys Island/Georgetown area. Barnie currently lives in Pawleys Island, SC with his wife of more than 30 years. | |
