In just a few short years ocean plastic debris has become a topic of worldwide concern.  Initially a few voices were raised, mainly grassroots in origin, and some of the most powerful were visual artists.  Now the chorus is loud, and though the problem is massive, corrective strategies are being discussed and implemented in ever widening circles.   This lecture series is designed to bring you voices of experience, some who have been in the forefront of ocean preservation for decades.  Attendees will meet artists, authors, researchers, state and local activists, educators and filmmakers.  Topics raised in the exhibition will be probed more deeply, and opportunities to become a solution (rather than a pollution) activist will be explored.

Lectures will be held at the DoubleTree Resort by Hilton Myrtle Beach Oceanfront in the Dunes Board Room Building, on Springmaid Boulevard (first building on the right next to the parking garage).  Look for directional signage.

All lectures (unless otherwise noted) will begin at 2 p.m.

6|26 — PLASTIC: A TOXIC LOVE STORY — SUSAN FREINKEL

The author of two books, Freinkel is a noted freelance science writer.  Her Plastic: A Toxic Love Story, published in 2011, was named one of the best books of the year by the Boston Globe.  She has published subsequent plastic     articles in outlets such as The New York Times and The Washington Post and has given numerous plastic interviews with the likes of NPR’s Fresh Air and The Atlantic.  Book signing for Plastic: A Toxic Love Story to follow.

 PLANET OR PLASTIC? LECTURES WILL BE HELD AT THE DOUBLETREE RESORT BY HILTON MYRTLE BEACH OCEANFRONT, IN THE DUNES BOARD ROOM BUILDING ON SPRINGMAID BOULEVARD.
ALL LECTURES ARE $10 PER PERSON; RESERVATIONS ARE NECESSARY
ALL LECTURES BEGIN AT 2 P.M.
PARKING IS AVAILABLE IN FRONT OF THE BUILDING, ALONG THE ROAD, IN THE MAIN HOTEL LOT OR IN EITHER OF THE PARKING GARAGES.
